A personal AI should be correctable—not authoritative

When an AI speaks about your life, a polished answer can easily sound like a verdict. Correctability is the product structure that returns interpretation power to the user.

For a personal AI, correction is not a feedback button. It is part of the memory and reasoning contract.

A plausible interpretation can still be wrong in the most important way

Personal material is incomplete, contextual, and often changing. An AI may connect several details into a coherent explanation while missing a distinction that is obvious to the person living it.

The danger is not only factual error. It is interpretive authority: the system presents one reading so fluently that the user feels expected to accept it.

Correctability requires more than thumbs up or thumbs down

A useful correction identifies what fits, what partly fits, and what was misunderstood. It can add a missing condition or reject the connection entirely.

The product must then change what happens next. Otherwise the interface invites disagreement while the memory system continues to carry the same claim.

  • Show the claim separately from the source material.
  • Let the user qualify or reject the claim in their own words.
  • Save the correction with the understanding it changes.
  • Prevent rejected claims from quietly returning as context.

Uncertainty should be visible before the user has to object

Nosce uses working understandings rather than final profiles. A working understanding can state what it currently sees and what evidence would make it reconsider.

This does not make every answer vague. The system can offer its strongest grounded reading while still showing that the reading is revisable. Directness and humility are not opposites.

The user remains the authority on fit—not the sole author of every connection

If an AI only repeats what the user already believes, it offers little new value. It should be able to propose a connection the user has not considered. But novelty does not grant authority.

The useful balance is a system willing to say what it sees, able to show why, and prepared to change when the person says the frame is wrong.

Trust is built when disagreement has consequences

An AI becomes easier to trust when the user can inspect a claim, challenge it, and see that the challenge changed the system. Correctability is not an apology after an error. It is how the product remains honest over time.
